The client bought a farm house in Cambridgeshire which had a pigsty attached to it. The roof was in a considerably bad state and the building itself needed attention. The brief was to change the use of the pigsty into the offices of the client's company.
The roof was changed to incorporate thermal insulation. New windows were opened at the rear and the openings in the front had windows installed, all in hardwood and in style to suit the character of the building. The trusses were kept and enhanced, the slopes of the roof lined with plasterboard keeping the maximum height, the flint walls left exposed wherever possible increasing the interest in the building. The offices had interconnected rooms with all doors in a line to save space and to allow easy circulation. Electrical points and computer facilities were incorporated in the fabric to allow up-to-date electronic communications.
The result was an office with character, efficient, light clean and modern within the rural set of Cambridgeshire.
